I am originally from rural Nova Scotia. I grew up with a grandmother who provided in-home care to people with disabilities and those who wanted to stay in their homes as long as possible. She gave their families a sense of security, knowing their loved one were safe and well cared-for. I always admired her for the care she provided.
In her later years I felt fortunate to have been able to spend time caring for her. We spent lots of time taking car rides together and even managed to fit in a trip to Newfoundland together before she passed. She was my inspiration and my best friend; and I have spent the past five years striving to provide people with the same amazing standard of care that she did.
I have experience working in home-care, group homes, small options homes as well as private respite. During the past five years I have worked with a diverse group of individuals with a large range of different abilities. For example, I have worked with individuals who have an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, Autism, Borderline Personality Disorder, Downs Syndrome, Dementia, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder, Lissencephaly Disorder, palliative care, self harm behaviours as well as suicide ideations. I have worked with infants to those who are 90+ years old, and those who identify being in the LGBTQ2+ community.
Things I enjoy include cooking, baking, going shopping, playing cards and board games. I am an animal lover: I have a Golden Retriever/Lab mix named Harley and a short-haired cat named Lucy.
I graduated from Nova Scotia Community College with a Diploma in Social Services. Since then, I have also completed the following training:
- First Aid and CPR - Level C & AED
- Medications Awareness and Administration
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- MANDT
- WHMIS
- OH&S
- FASD Training
- BPD training
